Eskild originally hales from Denmark but has lived a peripatetic life. His background in infectious diseases and parasites brought him early in his career to the University of Arizona where he was head of Infectious Disease for nearly 30 years. His research and specific clinical expertise allowed him to spend extended time in numerous beautiful locales on five continents. In 1998 he discovered Wells Gray Park, which rapidly became the place to return to. Since 2003 he and his wife spend as much time as possible in the house they built in the Clearwater Valley near the park.
